What is Christian Science?
Christian Science is a teaching with a strong focus on spirituality and healing. Its purpose is to bless and support people as they meet challenges and to help us all recognise our God-given heritage of health and freedom.
Founded in the 19th century by Mary Baker Eddy, a radical spiritual thinker, Christian Science is based on the Bible and regards itself as strongly Christian in its dedication to the teachings of Jesus and his followers. A foundational statement of the Christian Science movement is that it aims to ‘reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing’. (Christian Science should not be confused with Scientology).
The Christian Science movement goes under the name of the Church of Christ, Scientist and consists of The Mother Church in Boston, MA, USA and democratically governed branch churches around the world. You can find out more at ChristianScience.com.

Who was Mary Baker Eddy?
Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910) is regarded by Christian Scientists as the discoverer and founder of Christian Science. In our view she reminded the Christian world of the importance of Christian healing as it was practised in the first centuries after Jesus and his early followers.
She put her teaching in a book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and ultimately founded a church to make this teaching widely available. Among other things she also established an international news organisation, The Christian Science Monitor, with the object to ‘injure no man but to bless all mankind’.

This expectation, and his commands to love God and love our neighbour, are the foundation of true Christianity, not limited by dogma or theology.
